I’m a girl with lots of ideas, and I mean lots.
I could brainstorm and tell you all things I’m gonna do for hours. As we talk, new ideas will catch my interest and we will head down a few tangents during the conversation. To me to this exciting. This is the stuff that being an entrepreneur is all about, the creative energy of coming up with ideas.
But, uhm, well… then reality hits and, yep ideas only get you so far. Ideas are great, wonderful, energizing, but they don’t pay the bills. What pays the bills is taking those ideas and actually doing something with them. Wow, crazy idea huh!?
I know it, you know it, we all know it. In reality, how many of us actually take that extra step and go from idea to action and then complain that things are not going as expected?
Why is this transition from idea to action so dang hard?
I have been asking myself this question for years. Am I lazy? Am I disorganized? Am I… what? What’s wrong with me.
Then it hits me, well you had an awesome idea but what did you do with it?
Lets see, I told the first 10 people I saw and then, well nothing! Hmm, anyone else see the problem here? A plan (or a goal) not written down is just a dream. I have heard this quote or something like it for years and sometimes I actually write it down and even plan it out. Great, but now what? Did I review it regularly? Did I spend time evaluating if this is the right time or should it be saved for later? Did I make adjustments along the way to keep me on track? NO! Sheesh? What was I thinking?
So this time around, we (insert royal we here) are mixing it up, doing something different. The goal this week is to plan out the rest of the first quarter of 2012 and:
- Write out a plan of action steps
- Schedule time to implement
- Schedule time to review plans weekly
- Take my first business planning retreat at the end of first quarter
That is the goal this week and I will report back here when that is done. Then later on I will report back with the results.
Do you take time to plan and review that plan? What difference have you found it makes to your business and your productivity?
